Negotiation is the skill set any one can hardly teach....

Well, 1) you do a research and find out the salary paid by other companies especially your competitors.....

2) and compare that with your company's salary structure
3) If it is paying more good, if the company is paying less, very less, you need to take care and try to have a talk with your management
4) the candidates always ask double what they expect or atleast 50% more of what they expect...
5) for experienced candidates you atleast need to pay them more that their present CTC, it shall differ atleast 15 to 30% hike.
6) Cross check with your salary prescribed budget, and try to fix based on that....
7)if their expectation matches your company's offer, well and good, , try to have a talk with your management...
8)make sure that you are paying the minimum wages as prescribed under law....
9) decide the gross amount...
10) always offer less than your fixed amount of salary, reasonable varying from what they have asked... if the candidate agrees well and good, otherwise try to fix the number he asks for, if the number he's asked exceeds your fixed amount, fix the maximum limit upto what you have foxed for that position...
11) never be lenient while having negotiations and never be strict too so that you lose the potential candidate....
12) always have a talk with your management before confirming anything......
so based on these tips, hope you can manage the negotiation......

All the best .... :-)
