I have signed a contract to serve for atleast a period of 2 years with L&T and in case of breach I am liable to pay 2 lakh rupees as per the agreement. Now I have left the job after 2 months without informing the company officials i.e. a case of absconding. I have started receiving letters of warning to initiate a legal action against me in case I don't join back or pay 2 lakh immediately. I requested them to give me around 3 years to pay that amount as I am not in a position to pay that much now. But they refused it saying bond will expire after 2 years.

In case I don't reply to their letters or legal notices, what will be their future course of action? How many times will they send me legal notices? And when will I have to appear in court? How much time do these cases take?

Can I fight this case on my own without any lawyer on the ground that the amount 2 lakh was a pre-estimate of the expenses incurred by company on my training and I don't think 2 lakhs have been spent in those 2 months on my training?

Sir, Pl note the following points as required to understand by you in your posting:[1] In case you do not receive any notice, there is no fixed number of times a notice has to be served.basing on the acknowledgement may be \"door locked\" or person not available, four attempts are enough to file a case of absconding. With regard to the time limit, it depends on the nature of case filed by the company. To the best understanding of your posting the following charges can be framed against your [1] absconding [2] breach of trust [3] money charges [4] cheating etc., for such charges the penalty would be paying the amount as per the contract and also may shower with few months of imprisonment. Lastly you can for sure represent your case instead of a lawyer, provided you know the process and rules and documentation of the court at your place.
Regards
